Jaron Lanier, in his book Who Owns the Future, presents a similar but substantially darker model of fully-automated luxury capitalism (based on the assumption that the ad-tech ecosystem will never come down to earth). Lainer’s ‘solution’ (using Xanadu-style transcopyright to bring about a return to 1970s-style luxury middle class living at a larger scale) seems naive to me (how do we do that without UBI?), but even as Lanier comes off as naively bougie he’s still a compellingly deep thinker outside his blind spots.
